The GA's, Youth, RA's and Mission Friends of Garland Baptist Church sponsored a "Loving Hearts Spaghetti Supper" for the Garland Senior Center on Sunday, February 15, 2009. It was a wonderful mission project for Children's Ministry Day.   We accepted monetary donations as well as items that can be used at the center.   A special thanks to our church family for supporting our mission project.

Our group of 10 included 2 Mission Friends, 6 GA's, 1 RA, and 1 Acteen.  We also had four adult leaders.  We filled 12 laundry baskets with baby supplies and a children's Bible.  These "Baby Moses Baskets" will be distributed to needy mothers through our local Health Dept. and through the Families First Organization.  We also put together 100 activity booklets which will be distributed to children being seen by the NC Baptist Men's Dental Bus.  We had prayer for both projects.  We had a great time!

We had 12 GAs participate in CMD 09 through mission activities during our church's Upward Basketball ministry.  The girls handed out bottle water with special labels with information about our church and GA program.  They also gave out candy, heart stickers and treated the ladies to hand massages for Valentine's Day.  The girls had a great time and it provided a terrific opportunity to raise awareness about GAs & God's love while serving others.

The children of Mt. Ruhama Baptist Church participated in Children's Ministry Day by visiting a local retirement home. The children made Love Wreaths with personalized messages, home made Valentine's and prepared Valentine candy bags for those we visited. The children really enjoyed it. We had approximately 20 participants and visited over 40 people at the retirement home.  Our Mission friends, RA's and GA's all participated.

Our GA's from Meherrin Baptist Church in Murfreesboro, NC participated in Children's Ministry Day on February 18, 2009. We had 9 girls and 3 GA leaders participating.  We prepared care packages for hospice patients.  We had two guests from our local Hospice to come and share with the girls about what they do to help the hospice patients.  They were really excited about the packages the girls did.Big smile

For our missions project for Caring Hearts (medical field) we did the "Benjamin Smiles" pillowcases project. Benjamin died of cancer in 1999. He was just a kid. His parents have this program to make "funky" pillowcases for travel sized pillows for those with medical needs. You can learn more by visiting them at www.friendsandco.net or vickimollett@netscape.net or 307.527.7217. This project worked really good for us in these economic times. We started last fall by asking church members to donate unwanted fabric. We sorted these (some were further donated places). Once we had what we needed volunteers cut the fabric to the correct sizes. The kids then picked the three appropriate pieces (there were 3 different sized pieces) of the fabric patterns of their choice. Volunteers stitched these together. The kids then made cards telling Benjamin's story and wishing them well, etc. We included a sticker stating which group made/donated the pillows We put travel-sized pillows in the cases, put the card in the case too and then took all 50 to the local hospital to the different units and ER. The staff will pass these out. We also made 20 for the medical/dental bus for when it comes to visit us later in the year and we can pass them out to those we minister to on the bus. The kids thought this was a great project. It was really pretty cheap. It just cost the price of the pillows and we found them online pretty cheaply (nice pillows too!). We had 2/3 of the kids participate and they say this is the "best" activity each year (Children's Ministry Day). We are looking forward to 2010 already!

The Girls In Action of Oakley Baptist Church in Siler City, North Carolina made heart-shaped pillows for members of the Sunbridge Nursing facility.  We made 24 pillows and delivered them to the nursing home on Saturday, February 14th, Children's Ministry Day 2009. We visited with the residents and then enjoyed several games of bingo with the residents, using some of the pillows as bingo prizes.  We ended our day by assisting with a Valentine's party for the residents.
